The newest offering from Apple is aimed squarely at women
Another day, another Apple rumor. This time, The New York Times is offering more evidence that Apple's about to load a new bullet in its chamber: Later this year, the company will be announcing a new 7.85-inch version of its popular tablet at a price "significantly less than the latest $499 iPad."
The report says that the new device is aimed at solidifying Apple's stranglehold on the tablet market. Specifically, the smaller-sized tablet hopes to appeal to the female market ? a former Apple manager told the Times that a 7.85-inch design is perfect for women's purses.
Apple's new, smaller tablet will mark the company's entry into an increasingly contentious 7-inch tablet market. The 7.85-inch iPad will have to contend with a $199 Google Nexus 7 tablet that seems impossible for retailers to keep in stock, and a new line of better-made Kindle Fire devices.
