Google+ Launches Share Button, Ignores That Few Users = No Referral Traffic = No Installs

Google+ Share Button logoBlogs and content sites are only willing to give up valuable real estate and clutter themselves with social sharing buttons if they get ample referral traffic in return. That's the big problem with the Google+ Share button that launched today with no launch partners or live examples of it in use. The embeddable button for posting webpages to the Google+ news feed with an optional comment is going to struggle for installs unless Google can prove it drives page views. After flops like the Google Buzz and +1 buttons, and plenty of competition, it's going to be a tough sell. In the end, it could backfire, sidestepping the bullshit registered user counts Google cites as awesome growth and exposing the social network as a place few people spend time. And it's all kind of sad because the G+ Share button could be the answer to the Google+ content drought.

Chael Sonnen vs. Anderson Silva II moved to UFC 148 in Las Vegas

After logistical problems put UFC 147 in Rio de Janeiro in question, UFC president Dana White confirmed today Chael Sonnen's title rematch with UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva will be moved to UFC 148 in Las Vegas on July 7.

"I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is that Chael and Anderson will be fighting, but the bad news is that we can't do it here," White told a room full of reporters in Rio.

A United Nations convention causing logistical issues and difficulty finding a venue forced the change.

UFC 147, which will feature "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil" finals as well as coaches Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva facing off, still does not have a venue. The fights are still expected to take place on June 23 in Brazil.

White said Anderson Silva was not happy about the fight moving from his home country.

"He was upset about not fighting in Brazil. It took a lot of talking, and I finally convinced Anderson to take this fight in Las Vegas," White said.

Silva said that he does have fans all over the world, so he is comfortable fighting in Las Vegas.

"I'm a UFC athlete and I don't have fans just in Brazil but all over the world. Nothing will change. But I will do my job as always," Silva said.

Sonnen was disappointed that he wouldn't get a chance to break the UFC's attendance record of 55,000 set in Toronto at UFC 129.

"It was disappointing. I was hoping to be a part of breaking that record. But Las Vegas is the fight capital of the world and this is the biggest fight in the history of combat. My plan was to come here, take your money and my new belt and go back to America, but now I have to wait and stomp him on July 7. That's exactly what I'm going to do."

Adding Sonnen vs. Silva II as the main event at UFC 148 strengthens what was already a blockbuster card. At UFC 148, Urijah Faber will fight Dominick Cruz for the bantamweight belt, Rich Franklin will face Cung Le, Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin will fight for the third time, and Michael Bisping will fight Tim Boetsch.

Bears Interrupt Pennsylvania Weather Report

A mama bear and three cubs interrupted a live newscast in Scranton, Pa., Monday, just as meteorologist Kurt Aaron went to deliver his forecast outside the studio.

Tonight ... partly cloudy with a 100 percent chance of cute/scary!

"I walked out there, and I turn around and I hear the sound ... and the bear's literally 10 feet away from me!" Aaron explained, once he got back in the studio.

"And I ran like I stole something, I'm not gonna lie! That was a big bear," he said of the cubs' protective mother. "And she didn't look very happy with me."

The crew stayed inside the studio, watching from the window. Eventually, a high-pitched alarm sounded, causing the bears to scurry away harmlessly.

Hax: Love life has been a string of failures | The Hand

Posted by The Hand on April 23, 2012 in Relationships |

Dear Carolyn: This is a pretty painful question for me to ask. Over the past two years (since graduating from law school) my love life has been a mess; I?ve had about 10 pseudo-relationships that burned out quickly and have had to recognize I?m the common denominator.

I discussed this with friends and they gave me the ?tough love? talk: I move too quickly. Specifically, I jump into bed too quickly and wind up coming off as easy.

This was exceedingly difficult to hear from close friends, but corroborates comments a few past boyfriends have made. Now I feel just ? awful. I don?t really know what I?m doing wrong or how to change my approach, and I feel like this contradicts all the messages I?ve gotten in my adult life about sex being fun and not having to be a power chip.

I?d like the next relationship to have half a chance at success, so what can I do to make that happen?

Carolyn says: If it helps, it was a pretty painful question to read, too.

Not just because you?re obviously hurting ? you are, I?m sorry ? but because it sounds as if your friends? well-meaning honesty crossed over the fine line between constructive and corrosive criticism. Do you really want to hang on to men who would judge you for having sex at the same point in the relationship they do (barring some trippy violation of the laws of physics)?

For these few past boyfriends, I have only a ?wow.?

Is the double-standard alive? Sure, in some men.

So avoid them.

That said, everyone has the right prescription: Do slow down, please. Way down.

The problem in taking your friends? apparent counsel at face value is that it leaves the real problem unsolved. Hanging a ?mission accomplished? banner at ?stop jumping into bed with new men? ignores all the happy outcomes beyond that limit, where men and women have turned early or even first-date sex into lasting relationships.

That?s not because they happened to connect with people who aren?t raging hypocrites (though that helps) ? instead, they were able to tell the difference between a warm body and someone special.

Perhaps not on that first night ? impulsiveness is what it is ? but in the context of their experience.

To have gotten to the relationship point with 10 different men over two years means you?ve managed to find the One Who Could Be the One every third month or so. What are the chances that so many people have really been so promising? You don?t have to be a misanthrope to think: very, very slim.

So I don?t think the issue here is your jumping into bed ? it?s jumping into new men. That is, it?s not the sex, it?s the hope for romance at breakfast afterward. If you?ve been with a guy for only a few dates or weeks, treating your involvement as a full-blown sexual and emotional commitment confers more status on your relationship than your knowledge of each other is ready to support.

Unfortunately, of the two, behavior is easier to change than expectations are; telling yourself ?No sex until we?ve dated X months? and adhering to that isn?t easy, but it?s clear-cut. Telling your enthusiasm and daydreams to sit in a closet until your mutual affection, rapport and trust with a new boyfriend prove worthy of them? That involves the hard work of identifying, and admitting, why you so badly need the validation a ?love life? provides.

Repairing the source of the need is the answer here. Then more fulfilling things will follow, no matter how gaily you kick off your pants.

Public thanks or not?

Dear Carolyn: An extremely generous uncle of mine stepped forward when times got tough for my immediate family and paid for my university education and my upcoming wedding. I realize how fortunate I am. Of course, I have repeatedly expressed my gratitude to him.

Question: In the course of the imminent graduation and wedding celebrations, would it be at all appropriate to offer a toast to this gentleman and specifically speak to my guests of his generosity? On one hand it seems crass; on the other, I would like to acknowledge his tremendous support and at the same time not offend the other loving family members who are not in a position to attempt to match his generosity.

Carolyn says: Or the other loving family members who were in a position similar to yours, and didn?t receive such generous help ? right? That holds the potential for far more grievous offense.

When even one of your extremities says a shout-out would be crass, you?ve got a decent reason not to do it. However, the possibility of putting Uncle Bux on the spot is a decisive one. Raise a glass in thanks for his ? and others? ? kindness, and renew your specific thanks more discreetly.

Juvenile Imagines Soulja Slim As A Tupac-Style Hologram

'Just to be able to do that is crazy to me,' Juvie tells 'RapFix Live.'

After Tupac Shakur was further immortalized with a posthumous, holographic performance this past weekend at Coachella, many have wondered what other hip-hop legends might get the holo-treatment. The Notorious B.I.G., Eazy-E and Wu-Tang's Ol' Dirty Bastard are just a few examples of rap legends who were taken before their time; Soulja Slim is another.

"That was my 'Pac," Juvenile said of the New Orleans rap icon who was slain in 2003. "I told him that all the time: 'I think you're the greatest rapper in the world. It's a lot of things you just gotta straighten out outside of that.' "

Juvie pondered the possibility of seeing his old friend again onstage when he appeared on Wednesday's (April 18) "RapFix Live." Though he would love nothing more than to see his friend and collaborator get his just due, he did admit to being conflicted about using the holographic technology to bring Slim to the stage.

"I mean, that's a touchy one there. I don't know, man, because I'm so used to seeing him in a certain light, next to me, I put him on a pedestal," he said. "To see him in a hologram — just for him to be put in a sentence with Tupac, I think it would be something good. I can't see nothing bad coming out of it. I think the advancement of technology is a great thing. Just to be able to do that is crazy to me."

DJ Khaled, also a guest on Wednesday's "RFL," marveled when he saw Shakur grace the Coachella stage. "When I see what Dre was doin' with 'Pac, I was excited," he said. "We love 'Pac. I thought it was special."

The charismatic DJ was OK with the somewhat controversial display because it was approved by Tupac's mom, Afeni Shakur. "As long as you talk to the family members and they co-sign it, then we salute it," he said.

Juvenile echoed that sentiment. "That's the same way I feel about Ms. Linda," he said, referencing Soulja Slim's mother. "Just knowing that Ms. Afeni had something to do with it, it's a good thing."

Which late rapper would you like to see as a hologram? Let us know in the comments.
