Juvenile Imagines Soulja Slim As A Tupac-Style Hologram

'Just to be able to do that is crazy to me,' Juvie tells 'RapFix Live.'

After Tupac Shakur was further immortalized with a posthumous, holographic performance this past weekend at Coachella, many have wondered what other hip-hop legends might get the holo-treatment. The Notorious B.I.G., Eazy-E and Wu-Tang's Ol' Dirty Bastard are just a few examples of rap legends who were taken before their time; Soulja Slim is another.

"That was my 'Pac," Juvenile said of the New Orleans rap icon who was slain in 2003. "I told him that all the time: 'I think you're the greatest rapper in the world. It's a lot of things you just gotta straighten out outside of that.' "

Juvie pondered the possibility of seeing his old friend again onstage when he appeared on Wednesday's (April 18) "RapFix Live." Though he would love nothing more than to see his friend and collaborator get his just due, he did admit to being conflicted about using the holographic technology to bring Slim to the stage.

"I mean, that's a touchy one there. I don't know, man, because I'm so used to seeing him in a certain light, next to me, I put him on a pedestal," he said. "To see him in a hologram — just for him to be put in a sentence with Tupac, I think it would be something good. I can't see nothing bad coming out of it. I think the advancement of technology is a great thing. Just to be able to do that is crazy to me."

DJ Khaled, also a guest on Wednesday's "RFL," marveled when he saw Shakur grace the Coachella stage. "When I see what Dre was doin' with 'Pac, I was excited," he said. "We love 'Pac. I thought it was special."

The charismatic DJ was OK with the somewhat controversial display because it was approved by Tupac's mom, Afeni Shakur. "As long as you talk to the family members and they co-sign it, then we salute it," he said.

Juvenile echoed that sentiment. "That's the same way I feel about Ms. Linda," he said, referencing Soulja Slim's mother. "Just knowing that Ms. Afeni had something to do with it, it's a good thing."

Which late rapper would you like to see as a hologram? Let us know in the comments.

Warm and fuzzy T. rex? New evidence surprises

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? The discovery of a giant meat-eating dinosaur sporting a downy coat has some scientists reimagining the look of Tyrannosaurus rex.

With a killer jaw and sharp claws, T. rex has long been depicted in movies and popular culture as having scaly skin. But the discovery of an earlier relative suggests the king of dinosaurs may have had a softer side.

The evidence comes from the unearthing of a new tyrannosaur species in northeastern China that lived 60 million years before T. rex. The fossil record preserved remains of fluffy down, making it the largest feathered dinosaur ever found.

If a T. rex relative had feathers, why not T. rex? Scientists said the evidence is trending in that direction.

"People need to start changing their image of T. rex," said Luis Chiappe, director of the Dinosaur Institute at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, who was not part of the discovery team.

Much smaller dinosaurs with primitive feathers have been excavated in recent years, but this is the first direct sign of a huge, shaggy dinosaur. Scientists have long debated whether gigantic dinosaurs lost their feathers the bigger they got or were just not as extensively covered.

The new tyrannosaur species, Yutyrannus huali, is described in Thursday's issue of the journal Nature. Its name is a blend of Latin and Mandarin, which translates to "beautiful feathered tyrant."

A team of Chinese and Canadian scientists analyzed three well-preserved fossil skeletons ? an adult and two juveniles ? recovered from a quarry in China's Liaoning province by a private fossil dealer. Most striking were the remains of down-like feathers on the neck and arm. Though coverage was patchy, scientists suspected the species had feathers over much of its body.

It would have felt like touching "long, thick fur," co-author Corwin Sullivan of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said in an email. Another scientist, Thomas Holtz Jr. at the University of Maryland, compared it to the feathers of an emu.

The creature lived about 125 million years ago. At 30 feet long and weighing a ton, Y. huali would have reached T. rex's chest.

The dino-fuzz likely provided insulation, though camouflage or showing it off like a peacock could not be ruled out.

Since T. rex is related to this newfound feathery species, chances are good that T. rex was feathered as well, scientists said. Just don't mistake fuzzy for cuddly. The predatory dinosaur would have been just as menacing.

Having feathers "doesn't make it less threatening or less fearsome," said Holtz, who had no role in the research.

Matthew Lamanna, assistant curator at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, said T. rex most likely was covered in both feathers and scales.

Whatever the coverage of feathers, the latest fossil finds "force us to conceive of tyrannosauroids in a new way," said Julia Clarke at the University of Texas at Austin.

Secret Google Maps Features

Google Maps is pretty useful for getting driving directions, but did you know all the other things you could do with it? Here's a few of those nifty tips and tricks hidden in Google Maps.

Get Walking and Public Transit Directions

Not only can you get driving directions to and from a location, you can get walking directions, too. You can also get public transportation directions in select areas.

If this is available in your area, you will see a drop-down list of choices underneath the location and destination field. Select car, walking, or public transport, and the directions are customized for you.

Get Alternate Driving Directions by Dragging

Do you know you need to avoid a construction zone or toll area, or do you want to take a longer route in order to see something along the way? Change your route by dragging the path around. You don't want too much of a heavy hand when you do this, but it's a very handy feature.

Embed Maps on Your Website or Blog

If you click on the link text on the upper right-hand side of a Google Map, it will give you the URL to use as a link to your map. Just below that, it gives you the code you can use to embed a map in any Web page that accepts embed tags. (Basically, if you can embed a YouTube video on that page, you can embed a map.) Just copy and paste that code, and you've got a nice, professional looking map on your page or blog.

View Mashups

Google Maps allows programmers to hook into Google Maps and combine it with other data sources. This means you can see some interesting and unusual maps.
Gawker took advantage of this to make the somewhat creepy Gawker Stalker. This map gets real-time reports of celebrity sightings and shows the location on Google Maps. A science fiction twist to this idea is the Doctor Who Locations map that shows areas where the BBC television series is filmed.
Another map shows where US zip code boundaries are, or you can find out what the effects of a nuclear blast would be.

Create Your Own Maps

You can make your own map. You don't need programming expertise to do it. You can add flags, shapes and other objects, and publish your map publicly or share it only with friends. Are you hosting a birthday party in the park? Why not make sure your guests can really find how to get to the right picnic shelter.

Edit Locations in Google Maps

Is your house in the wrong spot on the map? Do you know that the entrance to the store is on the other side of the block? Did the record store move? You can edit it. You can't edit every location, and you can't move things too far from their original location. Your edits will display your profile name to avoid abuse.

Get a Map of Traffic Conditions

Depending on your city, you can view traffic conditions when you look at Google Maps. Combine that with the ability to create an alternate route, and you can navigate the toughest traffic jam. Just don't try doing this while you're driving.

See Your Location on a Map From Your Phone - Even Without GPS

That's right, Google Maps for Mobile can tell you approximately where you are from your phone, even if you don't have GPS. Google put together a video that explains how this works. You do need a phone with a data plan to access Google Maps for Mobile, but it's a nice perk to having one.

Street View

Street view shows you images that were captured from a special camera (shown here) attached to a black VW Beetle. Google has gotten into some trouble for this feature by people who think of it as a stalker tool or an invasion of privacy, but it's intended as a way to find your address and know what your destination will look like. Google responded to privacy concerns by implementing technology designed to blur faces and license plate numbers from the captured images.

Share Your Location With Your Friends

Google introduced a Maps feature called Latitude that lets you share your location with select friends. You can update your location manually or automatically, and you can use Latitude on phones or standard computers.

It may seem a bit creepy to enable location sharing, but you can turn the service on or off as you desire. It's saved me calls from my husband to ask if I'm coming home at my usual time. He can just use Latitude to see if I'm at work or on the bus.
